THE PRECESSION OF THE EQUINOXES
"This
large time cycle has been thought since ancient times to represent a complete
cycle of human spiritual advance. The Maya certainly were aware of the precession
by about 300 B.C., even though the Greeks were said to have "discovered"
it around 128 B.C. Studies of ancient Sumerian and Egyptian texts proved they,
too, were aware of the precession. It is thus understood - from a long line
of ancient philosophizing - as a kind of "great year" of human spiritual
gestation. It was called the Platonic Year. I should point out that 26,000 years
equal 36,500 tzolkin cycles of 260 days, suggesting a connection to the solar
year."
