HONORING THE GALACTIC TIME MESSENGER:
José Argüelles
(1939 - 2011)
José Argüelles is the man responsible for turning the eyes of the world to the Ancient Maya, and the profundity of Galactic Time Science. His teachings form the basis of the harmonic time system of The Galactic Calendar.
José was a professor, author, artist, visionary scientist, peace activist, humanitarian, cultural pioneer and spiritual guide. The fruits of his life’s work have touched thousands upon thousands of people, who in turn have spread the seeds of his knowledge around the world.
At age 14, José had a visionary experience atop the Pyramid of the Sun, Teotihuacan, Mexico in 1953. Ever since that moment, he pursued a lifelong investigation of decoding the mysteries of the Ancient Maya - their calendars, prophecies, cosmology and mathematics. In 1987, he gained international acclaim with his book "The Mayan Factor" which revolutionized the world's comprehension of the Ancient Maya, and clarified the significance of their galactic time wisdom in this modern era.
Also in 1987, José Argüelles initiated the now world-famous "Harmonic Convergence" which was the first globally synchronized meditation and prayer for World Peace ever of its kind, pre-internet!
After decades of living immersed in the cycles and mathematics of Mayan calendrics, José came to clearly understand the distinction between this "natural time" as contrasted to our modern relationship to time which he called "mechanical time" or "artificial time."
This realization was formalized in 1989 when he made The Discovery of The Law of Time. According to The Law of Time: "Modern humanity is out of harmony with our living biosphere because it is immersed in an erroneous and artificial perception of time which causes it to deviate at an accelerated rate from the natural order of the universe."
Essentially, the message is that our disconnection from natural time cycles is a root cause of our disconnection from nature. Therefore, use of a nature-based calendar is one of the most profound possibilities to re-align our human culture into harmony with the biosphere.
Arguelles elucidated that we are the only species who has concocted an artificial, mechanized reality set to the pace and held in place by an artificial, mechanized, man-made version of time. As Arguelles said: "We are the only species with wristwatches and the only species destroying our environment. There is a connection... As long as we are living on this timing frequency we are going to go farther and farther away from the universal natural cycles. As we go farther away we get out of touch with our own nature and we get out of touch with the Great Nature..."
José Argüelles brought the life-changing awareness to our modern culture that "Time is not money. Time is Art." He dedicated his life to educating people around the world that calendars are actually programs of culture, and that as we shift our mentality about time, we can directly shift our culture.
Based on his life-long studies, in 1992 José synthesized ancient teachings and new revelations and presented a modern, universal application of ancient Mayan time science, in service to assisting modern humanity to return to living in Natural Time. This calendar system is known as "Dreamspell" or "The Galactic Calendar" or "The 13-moon/28-day Calendar." This system is not the traditional Mayan Calendar that connects one specifically to the culture of the Maya people and their lands, history, ancestry, and religion. Rather, the calendar system Argüelles brought forward is intended for people of all cultures - to establish what he calls "galactic culture."
Not only did José offer a time-map one could refer to every day to be in tune with galactic time cycles, he and his then-wife Lloydine, also travelled around the world sharing this unique insight that the calendar we use directly affects our minds. Together, they generated an international alliance called Planet Art Network and a global movement known as The World Thirteen Moon Calendar Change Peace Movement which also revived the Nicholas Roerich Peace Pact and Banner of Peace (1935).
As a result of his dedication, this 13-moon/28-day Calendar system is now activated by people in 90 countries around the world who have joined forces in consciously aligning their lives, every day, with the universal rhythms of nature! Change your calendar, change your time, change your mind, change our world...
The essence of José Argüelles’ vision was for humanity to cooperate together in honoring and restoring Planet Earth as a Living Work of Art!

It was José Argüelles’s teachings that first touched Eden Sky in 1995, and awakened her life’s work of publishing The Galactic Calendar which she, her husband Robert, and son Merlin produce every year.
With gratitude to Dr. José Argüelles and his service to the Earth, and 7 times 7 Generations, we take great honor in receiving and upholding the knowledge he has brought to life, understanding its power to activate human culture to live in conscious resonance with the Planetary and Galactic Whole. Although José passed on, his teachings live on, paving an exquisite path towards the realization of Universal Harmony.
